Kratom is a natural substance derived from the leaf of a widely grown Southeast Asian tree, Mitragyna speciosa. This tropical evergreen bears tender green leaves, high in alkaloids – highly unique naturally occurring organic compounds.
Each leaf has several colored veins running through it, in red, yellow, or green. These colors can tell you a lot about each kind of kratom’s characteristics, from alkaloid content and concentration to when during the growth cycle it was harvested.
Read on to learn all about the different kinds of green vein kratom.
Understanding Kratom Names
The name of each kratom type usually describes both where it is from and the color of its veins. But there are a few exceptions to that rule, as you’ll soon discover.
Kratom grown in different locations varies, with various regions contributing chemical compounds that impact each strain’s unique alkaloid profile. This variance might be linked to growing conditions ranging from soil properties to temperature, rainfall, and more.
While kratom certainly has a fascinating history, we still have a lot to learn. Further study is still required to learn all the potential benefits and possibilities that this plant might yield!
Green Borneo Kratom
This Indonesian strain hails from the country’s third largest island, shared with Malaysia and Brunei, and is one of the most widely sold kinds of kratom out there.
Both Green Kali and Green Brunei kratom are grown on the same island. This makes them challenging to distinguish, with all 3 plants sharing a very similar chemical breakdown.
Green Maeng Da Kratom
Another of the most popular types of kratom on the market, Maeng Da, is traditionally grown in Thailand, where a combination of rich soil and ideal tropical natural conditions allow it to develop more alkaloids than other green vein strains.
Green Maeng Da kratom is one of the most commonly bought and sold strains in Southeast Asia, where its name roughly translates to the Lao word for “pimp”.
Green Malaysian Kratom
This kratom strain is grown in dense tropical jungles throughout the Malaysian peninsula and some of the surrounding islands.
Because it is so widely grown, it is an affordable and readily available strain, and one of the first to have hit US and EU markets.
Green Raiu Kratom
Grown only on the banks of the remote Raiu river, this Indonesian strain contains more alkaloids than some of its green counterparts.
Because it is a less widely known strain that grows in a smaller geographic area, it is one of the more costly and hard-to-find types on our list.
Green Bali Kratom
Another widely grown and highly common strain, this type of kratom comes from one of Indonesia’s largest and most widely populated islands, Bali.
From a chemical standpoint, it is believed to be most similar to Green Maeng Da. You can expect these two strains to be nearly identical in price and availability.
Green Vietnam Kratom
This is an uncommon and hard-to-find strain, one of the only grown in Vietnam. Green Vietnam kratom is cultivated in dense jungles near the country’s shoreline.
This unique location is believed to nourish the kratom tree in such a way that the leaves contain a very different alkaloid blend than other green vein strains. So, it’s one of the rarest and most desirable types on the market today.
Enhanced Green Vein Kratom
Sometimes, manufacturers blend more than one kratom strain or add natural concentrates like 25x gold kratom powder to green vein products. These full-spectrum mixes contain highly varied alkaloid blends that couldn’t be achieved through one strain, alone.
Gold kratom, in particular, contains a very different alkaloid profile. So, combining it with green kratom can create brand new chemical profiles.
Green Horn Kratom
This is one of the hardest to find green vein kratom strains sold. And, thanks to its scarcity, it’s among the most expensive, too.
Green Horn Kratom is named for the shape of its leaves, rather than where it is grown. Unlike typical kratom strains, this plant’s leaves grow rough, and even sharp, thorn-like edges.
It is believed that Green Horn kratom’s fascinating alkaloid blend was able to evolve separately from other strains, as animals and humans avoided harvesting it thanks to its nasty “horns”.
Some types of green vein kratom, like Green Dragon and Green Elephant, aren’t named for where they are grown. And, they aren’t one specific kratom strain!
These proprietary blends use multiple types of green vein kratom to create specialty alkaloid blends. However, because they are proprietary or patented mixtures of different kratom types, their exact contents are only known to manufacturers.
Green Vein Kratom Safety
Kratom is most commonly sold online. If you’re looking to buy over the internet, be sure to only shop with reputable vendors and well-known retailers who are happy to share their reviews and testimonials with potential clients.
This can help protect you from online scams, counterfeit goods, and other poor business practices.
You should always store kratom in a cool, dry place once its packaging has been opened. And, be sure to keep it out of the reach of kids, pets, and anyone else who you don’t want getting into it.
Shopping for Green Vein Kratom
Now that you know a bit more about the different types of green vein kratom, you’re ready to start shopping.
Remember, you should be careful who you purchase these products from, or risk disappointment with kratom that is fake, never arrives, or, even worse, contains potentially dangerous ingredients.
Still not sure exactly which type of kratom you want to buy? No worries!
Starting off with a kratom sample pack is probably your best bet. That way, you can learn about several different vein colors and specific strains at the same time.
