A Quick Look at the Various Strains of Kratom

You’ve heard about kratom, but what exactly is it?

Kratom plants are trees that are native to Southeast Asia’s tropical regions. However, not all kratom plants are alike.

So, what strains of kratom are available? And how can you tell one strain from the next?

Here’s a rundown of the different strains of kratom you should know about.

Let’s dig in!

What Is Kratom?

Kratom trees are native to countries like Myanmar, Malaysia, and Thailand. These trees can grow tall in their natural habitats.

When grown in a cooler climate, kratom trees have to be safeguarded from cold weather. For this reason, these trees are often grown in containers. In this way, they can be grown outdoors in the summer and spring, then brought indoors during the winter and fall seasons.

What’s great about kratom in general is that it is affordable and easy to access. Let’s take a look at the various kinds of kratom available this year.

Maeng Da

Maeng Da is one of the most popular and highest quality strains of kratom due to its high strength qualities. This Thai strain combines the unique qualities of white and red strains (more on both later).

Note, though, that Maeng Da isn’t from a leaf or tree. Instead, it is created using a cultivation technique known as grafting. With this technique, two plants are fused together to produce a hybrid.

Maeng Da takes longer to dry compared with other types of kratom. This results in a higher alkaloid content, which contributes to the strain’s elevated qualities.

In addition, Maeng Da leaves are initially dark. However, they become a greener hue when crushed and powdered.

Red Thai

This is one of today’s most widely used kratom strains. This strain is hard to miss, as a chemical in the plant gives Red Thai leaves their hard-to-miss red veins.

This kratom strain is cured indoors under ultraviolet light as well as outdoors. This is what leads to the plant’s deep red color.

The Red Thai strain is available in several forms, including capsules, resin, kratom extract, and loose powder. Note that Thai kratom strains, like Red Thai, are not as strong as strains from other countries are.

Bali

This strain is likely the most in-demand strain in the market today. The leaves of this strain are much darker compared with other strains.

One of the reasons for the popularity of Bali is that a Bali kratom tree typically grows faster than other kratom trees do. As a result, the Bali strain is more widely available.

Red Borneo

Red vein kratom, which hails from Borneo, is a popular kratom option as well. Borneo’s plantations remain the primary sources of the majority of kratom products available today, including the Red Borneo strain. That’s because Borneo offers the ideal environment for planting and growing kratom plants.

The Red Borneo strain requires tropical environments, as they need plenty of warmth and humidity. Red Borneo plants especially love extremely moist environments. For this reason, you’ll often find these plants situated along a body of water, like a river.

You can tell from the Red Borneo plant’s leaves that the plant is ready to be harvested.

If the plant’s leaves are yellow or white, they are nowhere close to being ready for harvesting. Over time, the leaves will become greener.

The plants will finally begin to display the red veins they are known for. This is an indication that the plants are ready for harvesting and that the leaves are very potent.

Many individuals consider the Red Borneo strain to be stronger than most other kratom strains. However, it is typically less powerful than other kratom strains with red veins, particularly those harvested outside of the island of Borneo.

White Vein

White vein is another type of kratom that is in high demand in the market today. White vein kratom plants are picked when they are young. They are then dried indoors, usually in air-conditioned environments that don’t contain any light.

This environment is necessary to make sure that the kratom plants don’t mature while curing. This will allow the veins to stay white.

Let’s go over several types of white vein kratom you should know about.

White Vein Strains

One strain is the Thai white vein strain, which is harvested in Thailand. Another one is the Sumatra white vein strain, which is harvested in an Indonesian province called Sumatra.

You can also find the Indo white vein strain, the white vein Bali strain, and the Borneo white vein kratom.

Important Considerations

Note that high-quality white vein kratom strains don’t include additives or fillers. In addition, they are 100% pure. You can be certain that you are buying quality kratom by purchasing kratom grown on family-owned, small farms.

Keep in mind that the production process’s quality also matters. Reputable producers of white vein kratom make sure that their plants’ leaves aren’t dried in sunlight. In addition, they regularly maintain and clean the machines they use to produce the plants.
